National Guard Aptitude Test Overview
The National Guard aptitude test refers to the assessments needed to join the military, specifically the National Guard. Prospective members must complete a range of tests, including the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) and the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). These tests are conducted at Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Tests Overview
The tests cover four main areas of aptitude: Math, Verbal, Spatial, and Science and Technical. There are two types of ASVAB tests: the computer-adaptive test (CAT-ASVAB) and the pencil-and-paper version. The CAT-ASVAB adapts to the test-taker’s ability and takes about two hours to complete, while the pencil-and-paper version takes about 3-4 hours.
ASVAB Subtests
General Science (GS): Covers life science, physical science, and earth and space science. (15 questions, 8 minutes)
Arithmetic Reasoning (AR): Involves solving arithmetic word problems. (30 questions, 15 minutes)
Word Knowledge (WK): Tests vocabulary and word usage. (8 questions, 15 minutes)

Assembling Objects (AO): Focuses on spatial reasoning skills. (15 questions, 40 minutes)

What to Expect in the National Guard Aptitude Test
